Non-Extraction Treatment of a Skeletal Class II Adult Patient with Severe Crowding Using Temporary Skeletal Anchorage Devices
Park Jin-Young

Ahn Hyo-Won
Abstract
In skeletal Class II patients with crowding, decision of extraction is a critical step for treatment planning. Recently,
non-extraction treatment has been increased in accordance with advancement of orthodontic devices, widespread use of
temporary skeletal anchorage devices (TSADs), and application of appropriate biomechanics. Resolution of crowding
can be achieved through interproximal reduction, total distalization, expansion of the dental arches and mandibular
incisors proclination. Especially arch form development was observed in arch width of canine and premolar areas after
treatment. For treatment of Class II patients with severe crowding, strategic use of arch form development and total
distalization can extend the scope of non-extraction treatment with a combination of passive self-ligating brackets, wide
archwires and TSADs.
